The Digital Humanism Initiative in collaboration with African partners, in particular the Internet Society (ISOC, Ghana Chapter, Accra), Central University, Accra, Ghana, and the University for Development Studies UDS (Tamale, Ghana), are organizing the Second African Digital Humanism Summer School, with an associated Innovation Boot Camp.
From the organisers:
Objectives: Digital Humanism is an emerging interdisciplinary movement examining the complex relationship between technology and humanity, with the goal of ensuring that technology is designed and used in ethical, inclusive, and society-benefiting ways. Although the conversation on the Digital Transformation is a global one, African voices and contexts, however, have been underrepresented in these debates.
Building on the success of earlier Digital Humanism Summer Schools, the Second African Digital Humanism Summer School will take place from Monday August 31 to Saturday, September 05, 2026, in Accra, Ghana.
Our five-day Summer School Program serves as a platform for African and international students, researchers, and practitioners to engage with the ethical and societal challenges of the digital age from an African perspective. It fosters interdisciplinary exchange between technologists, social scientists, policymakers, and community advocates. The Summer School will emphasize hands-on collaboration and network-building among participants.
Internationally renowned and leading academics from computer science, social sciences, law and humanities will discuss important recent topics and themes:
Foundational Issues: Foundational and Philosophical Issues of Digital Technologies
